Protecting my Mojo

"If your mojo is working, you lead a charmed life. That's because mojo, in its original sense, is a charm, kept in a cloth bag. Depending on which conjure doctor you go to, the charm can be roots, rats, snakes, lizards, pumpkin seeds, dirt, clay, or steel wool. "

That's what I learned by seeking its definition on the internet.  I also learned it is the source of one's personal magnetism, sex appeal, or merely good luck, power, or heightened performance in your choice of activity.  Apparently it is something worth holding onto if one has the good fortune of finding oneself with said "mojo".

How is your mojo?  Are you protecting it?  Keeping it safe so as not to lose its power?

Yesterday I worked very hard not to lose my mojo.  Several times I very nearly lost it over the edge, hanging in the precarious balance between safety and a watery demise.  When it was at risk of a stream, or a marsh, or a pond, I used whatever means necessary to keep it safe, or at times, to rescue it, including sacrificing the clean knees of my white capris by kneeling in the grass to retrieve it out of a fast-running creek.

I was also playing perhaps my best round of golf ever, which I was attributing to the acquisition of my mojo.

Where did I find my mojo?  Some poor sap lost it by the wayside and I happened to stumble upon it.  His loss.  My gain.  ;-)

Keeping up with Robert

Mr. Energy!  That's what my son is.  I marvel at all the things he manages to fit into his life.  And rather than stressing about his full schedule, he seems to be thriving on it.  On our recent trip to visit, we were fortunate to be spectators of his wonderful life.

He coaches one of the golf teams at BYU-I, which includes participating as a golfer.  There was a tournament while we were there, and despite the Rexburg wind, we joined the gallery and followed him around.  And we weren't the only ones.  He has a regular entourage that supports him faithfully.

The following day we got up early to send him off on another of his activities, the Teton Dam Marathon.

Yet again, his faithful little family was there, bright and early, to cheer on their favorite fellow.

While I can't be there all the time to support my favorite son, I am so thankful that others who love him are cheering him on, encouraging him to thrive and succeed, not just in extracurricular activities, but in that race called life.

Never Dreamed...

I would ever have the opportunity to golf at one of the beautiful courses in Walt Disney World.  It just seemed like too much of an extravagance that I would never allow myself.  It is so nice when the men in my life are able to use their charms to get me to change my mind...

It was a beautiful day, although a little chilly, when Brian, Robert, Derek and I headed off to the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course to play 18 holes.  The other girls spent their afternoon at the spa at the Grand Floridian.  They thought I was crazy to choose golf over a spa, but look who I got to spend my time with?

I think I made the right choice.

Robert had brought everyone a Disney character golf ball to start off with.  I chose to use Minnie Mouse.  She and I were doing surprisingly well, until I think it was around the 8th hole.  There was a water hazard that I thought ended before the bunker to the left.  I thought I was perfectly lined up to miss the water; hit my shot exactly where I wanted it to go.  Then walked up over the bunker to discover that the water went clear across.  Hmmmm.....good-bye Minnie.

One of my favorite things to do on a beautiful course is to take lots of pictures.  The scenery was gorgeous and much of it was at Saratoga Springs, which is our home resort in the Disney Vacation Club.  It was fun to see places we have stayed before.

All the boys played really well.  Brian and Robert even had a little wager going.  The deal they had worked out earlier was that the loser would have to wear matching shirts with me to one of the WDW parks.  Apparently they felt this would be the ultimate punishment.  I have tried not to take that too personally...

The game was so close that it came down to a 7 foot putt for Robert to win on the 18th hole.

Guess who had to be "matchy-matchy" with me?

What a great day.  Thanks, guys, for letting me tag along.

I really love...

my golf course.  Today I had more fun taking pictures of the beautiful scenery than I did swinging that darn club. Just had to share a few of them.

We were nearly the only ones out on the course today.  Kind of felt like our own private club.  I am so glad that we have this hobby we can share together.

Words of wisdom

Touring Pro:  I'm having trouble with my long putts.
Ben Hogan:  Why don't you try hitting your irons closer to the pin?  ;-)

The Magic of Creekside Golf Club

I live in one of the most beautiful places on earth.  And because of that...
the golf courses are spectacular!  Here is one of my favorite holes, #3 on the front nine. Why is it my favorite?  Because I can actually make par on it occasionally :-)

But you know what?  That aside, there is a completely different reason why I love to golf.  It doesn't matter how stressful the day, or how lousy I play, I find magic on the course that relaxes me, lowers my blood pressure, decreases my anxieties, and restores my soul.

I feel so blessed to have been able to add this new dimension to my life.

Brian and I love spending this time together.  It has to be well-planned and protected from an otherwise consuming schedule, but we are usually successful in going at least once a week.

Another bonus has been being able to golf with our buddies, the Brocks.  Rich and Patti are so much fun to be with, and Rich always manages to give me a few welcome pointers.

I am still trying to figure out if I will be a foulweather golfer in addition to fairweather. The rains are surely coming.  Will I still be so anxious to go out when I will need rain pants instead of golf shorts?

If it means hanging out with these two guys?  You BET!
